What is MRI?
MRI is a method of obtaining images of internal body structures with the use of magnetic field and radio frequency. This exam does NOT use ionizing radiation (x-rays) to the body in the process. It is a common diagnostic tool with no risk to the patient while providing high quality evaluations of:
- Traumatic injuries
- Knee and Shoulder injuries and disorders
- Foot and Ankle injuries and disorders
- Elbow and Wrist/Hand injuries and disorders
- Hip and Spine trauma and pathology
- Spinal diseases
- Bone infections
- Osteomyelitis
Why Have Your MRI at AOSH?
Our facility has been specifically designed to provide the highest quality examinations for patients with orthopedic and muscloskeletal imaging needs. We feature a GE high-field, short-bore magnet with designated extremeity coils to provide a more accurate diagnosis for bone and joint imaging due to the high level of resolution. It is the optimal choice for patients with joint/orthopedic imaging needs.
In addition, an experienced Board Certified MRI technologist performs all exams. The department is directed by a Board Certified Musculoskeletal Radiologist assuring that your exam is interpreted and performed with protocols that will be of the highest diagnostic quality.
What to Expect?
- You need to arrive 15 minutes before your sheduled appointment to register.
- You will need to complete a MRI Screening Form.
- You will be interviewed by the MRI technologist prior to your scan.
- Expect your scan to last between 20 to 60 minutes depending on the scan ordered.
